The Road Less Cluttered

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And I have eagerly traveled both,

And being the seasoned traveler, I stood

Looking down both roads as far as I could

To where experiences led to personal growth;

One road was cluttered with gizmos and gadgets,

Schedules consuming us with no time to spare,

With so many things that we just had to get;

Striving for bigger and better while drowning in debt,

In a cold hollow home since we weren’t ever there;

A new road we’ve found where we live with less,

A path where contentment and peace can be found,

A slower pace for our lives and abandoning the mess,

With priorities in place and forgetting the rest,

A life where joy, time, and meaning abound.

I share my story with a happy sigh,

Somewhere this journey began to make sense,

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less cluttered by,

And that has made all the difference.

“The Road Less Cluttered” by Faith Janes was inspired by “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost.
